I thought I ought to give some basic identifiers for the Fairchild family just to make it easier for me to remember everything. These are character profiles in brief. Personality: An absent-minded and exasperated woman half the time, because she works hard rather than smart. Often runs around doing several things at once, making more fuss and bother about it than she would sticking to one task. Is treated with nothing but affection and respect by her family. She is tougher on discipline than her husband, and knows how to make each and every one of her sons behave or feel guilty, except John, that is.

Age: 25

Description: Has gray eyes that look bluish in the right light, and blonde hair. Wears sooty working clothes because he often worked in the engine room. Has an impressive handlebar mustache.

Personality: Generally shy, especially when talking to women he doesn't know well. A skilled fiddle player. Generally does what he's asked to do without complaint so long as it keeps him away from having to talk to strangers too much. Dislikes fighting, but can do so when necessary. He often plays protector and peacemaker to his younger brothers. Gets along best with Joseph because Joseph is good at drawing attention away from Edward.

Personality: Outgoing and charming to ladies especially. Nevertheless, faithful and a hard worker. A good piano player. Has a bit of a rivalry with John because of their close ages, similar temperaments, and somewhat competitive natures. Gets along especially well with Edward because Edward is the quiet sort who will not compete with Joseph's need to be the center of attention.

Personality: An extrovert who is given to teasing and making off-color remarks. Has never been the type to stick around to do chores, and is more likely to wander off to carouse than to stay in and swab the decks. He is considered the problem child of the family. However, he will listen when his father gets angry at him, even if he's frustrated and worried his mother for years.


Lucas "Luke" Fairchild

Harold "Harry" Fairchild

Age: 15

Description: A gawky teenager, still a bit short compared to his older brothers. Hair is light blonde, and his eyes are a darker sort of blue than Luke or Alistair's. Wears the same comfortable working clothes as most of his family.

Personality: A kind, quiet, responsible sort who wishes he could be lazy, reckless, and get away with it like his brother, John. Tags along with John on some of his ventures, but is easily brought back or cowed by a few words from Edward, Joseph, or any one of his other older family members. Sometimes listens even to Luke, but only when John isn't around.
