The League of Steel is a federation of Centicrus dominated city-states that work together for their mutual benefit. League members are self-administrated, but share open borders, currency, and a combined military with other League members. The League of Steel is well known as a major mercantile and military power in its region. While the League has few magical assets it is well known as the technological capital of the world.

League Army

The League of Steel is infamous for its technologically advanced Burrowships: great airships designed with interior tunneling and passageways for the crew's movement. The League's Navy uniquely hosts a fleet exclusively formed out of steelclad warships. These Burrowships carry their guns within armored turrets and mount everything from huge anti-ship cannons to gattling turrets.

History

The region currently occupied by the League of Steel has long been the homeland of the Centicrus species. In older times it was far more fractious than it is today. The various city-states of the region often competed for power and influence through any means necessary. The cities of Terantic, Ciric, and Chitran were bitter rivals for leadership of the region, and the smaller cities jockeyed for the strength to rival the big three.

This situation changed with the circumstances of the Centicrus. The Three Cities' War, which happened 150 years ago, destroyed any dream of one city-state eventually ruling the entire region. In the aftermath of the war, other large empires also began to encroach on areas traditionally considered Centicrus "territory," such as the Coxish colony of Audum. Both of these events stirred up the rise of pan-Centicrus nationalism and a newfound spirit of unity among the city-states.

80 years ago the various cities signed the Treaty of Vitrich and formally founded the League of Steel. The League's design allowed each city to keep its traditional customs and government while avoiding conflict and providing a united front against outsiders. Several of the city-states joining were already significantly powerful factions in their own right, and the newly formed League quickly proved itself to be a formidable power in the region.

Since its founding the League has proven to be extremely protective of its sphere of influence. Although it seems to have no ambitions of conquest or imperialism, the League has used its military and economic strength to meddle in the affairs of its neighbors and enforce advantageous trade and commerce agreements. Most recently, the League of Steel recognized the independence of Audum during its rebellion against Coxland and granted it loans to fund its rebellion, as well as selling the colony huge quantities of munitions. This allowed Audum to successfully rebel, but the former colony owes the League huge debts to this day.
