Auras

The official theory of auras was developed by Shelby University, though it is suspected to have been a part of local magical practice in much of the central aria previous to Shelby’s definition.

The theory proposes that aura is magical energy, which is contained in everything, but especially within life.

The kinds of Auras

Cold aura is energy that is left behind, by strong auras and dramatic emotions. Cold auras might effect a person's home or objects which are important to them or kept continually close to them. Cold auras have often been described as a foot print or a sent left behind.

Aura points are places, or things around which magical auras and energies have coalesced for some reason or another. Aura points are often tied to cold auras, which were so strong as to take on a living energy of it own. They usually appear in places where a lot of magic once existed, or where a lot life once lived and died.

Static arua, is usually used to describe the aura which is a part of the general world and not a living being. It's in the air the earth and pretty much everywhere. However, the recant scientific hypothesis on microscopic life and bacteria have led some wizards to propose that static aura is life, just on a very small and simplistic level. Others say static aura is really just plain energy and not really aura at all.

Simple aura is the energy within non-sentient life, such as plans and animals, usually the more complex and older a being is the stronger it’s aura is.

Pure auras are very powerful, yet very simple auras, which usually surround magical beings or pure spirits. Such beings are rare, almst to the point of being mythical.

True auras surround sentient beings and have a great deal of strength and complexity. Sometimes true auras are equated with the soul, but this is not an official part of the theory.

Various Therories

The more recant theory of Magical Evolution is based of the theory of auras, and attempts to explain the development of life and magic through the eons, but that’s a controversial matter.

The main theory is that Auras are made up of many different kinds of magical energies comprised of several basic elements, which are mixed together into more complex natures. Wizards have attempted to comprised a table of the basic magical elements and several competing versions exist with various results, but the ability to dived magical energy into its purest form is only recently been achieved and new elements are constantly being discovered.

However, while now shown to be scientifically inaccurate, there has long been an established list of magical categories and elements, which define auras. This list has two categories and six basic elements. The categories are High magic and Fairy magic.

Fairy magic contains the elemental energies of Earth, Water, Fire and Air, and is said to be the core of fairy beings and originally sourced from pure auras of nymphs.

High magic has two elements Light and Dark, often these have been viewed as good and evil, but that is foolish superstition, as there is nothing inherently good or evil about either kinds of magic. The source supposedly comes from various spirit beings, such as the dalla-fea and eldil.

The dividing factor between the two categories is the magical ores they respond to. Usually auras that have a heavy influence of fairy magic, will have some kind of weakness to Bane, witch is a magical variant of iron. On the other hand High magic will often have a weakness to Holy Silver, a magical variant of silver. Both Bane iron and Holy Silver, are fairly common, but while it may effect several auras the ore is only truly detrimental to pure auras, or on auras that have been heavily skewed towards one specific element.

Most true auras are a very complex mixture of the elements, and often have what modern wizards call the perfect balance. This means that while true auras are very strong, they are also so evenly mixed that the energies balance each other out. While it’s true that a balanced aura will have very little natural magical ability, followers of Magical Evolution claim that a balances aura has far more depth and potential.

A perfectly balanced aura is, in other words the height of magical development. Under the simple surface, balanced auras are deeply magical and have the potential to unlock an enormous magical power. The key to unlocking this power is the main goal of wizards who believe in this theory.

While the theory of Magical Auras is one of the main foundations of the Shelby Method and has been a long-standing and accepted theory, all practitioners do not accept the idea of Magical Evolution. In fact, it has often been ridiculed, because almost every wizard with a significant amount of power has had an obviously skewed aura and some kind of naturally born gift in magic. So far, observance seems to show that a perfectly balanced aura is as good as no aura at all, when it comes to wildings magical power.

A counter theory to Magical Evolution is that a pure aura is actually the highest and most powerful kind of aura and that rather than magic evolving from simple and pure magic to complex and balanced magic, it has actually devolved. Once upon a time, beings were extremely magical and strong and that magic has gradually decreased and weakened throughout time, as the purity has been lost.
