Elemental Magistics: Shelby Method

The practice of manipulating the forces and elements of nature has always been an important part of magic and wizardry. Theories on methods and means date back as far as recorded history, but the most currant theory is the Shelby Method*.

According to the Shelby Method, Elemental Magistics is done by manipulating and transforming energy in such a way as to control one or more natural force or element. Elemental magistics includes magical control over water, air, heat, sound, electricity and other physical forces.

Elemental magistics can seem like simple magic, but it requires a lot of energy. Energy and matter don’t appear out of noting, not even by magic. According to Shelby’s theory, the energy required to magically call forth a ball of fire, or physically move air or water, comes by tapping into the life energy of auras, mainly from the wizard’s own, but also from surroundings static auras.

Often times the nature of the wizard’s aura will lend itself to a certain kind of force or element. Occasionally an arua will be so biased toward a certain element/force that manipulation of the element is like second nature to the wizard, but for many wizards elemental magistics is a very frustrating and draining practice*. This is because of the sheer amounts of energy use ally required for any spell of great significances. For the majority of wizards, performing rapid and powerful spells of this natured will drain a their energy almost at once.

Prior to the discovery of White Mercury, very few wizards could be effective elemental mages using the Shelby Method, but since the discovery and importation of White Mercury, the field has been rapidly expanding and changing not only the meaning of wizardry, but of energy and industry.

* The Shelby Method is not the only means of controlling elements. Many people agree that people born with a strong affinity to an element and a highly biased aura may very well be tapping into some other kind of magic, which is not fully understood.

* For wizards with little or no natural gifts in elemental magistics controlling elemental forces will usually require the aid of White Murcury and they will likely be very limited if the number and power of the spells. Also, it would require practice and a solid understanding of physics and the nature of the element or force they are manipulating.
