The Zalt Household

Lavinia paled slightly, a reaction that was not lost on Alistair though he couldn't quite figure it out as it was.

"An accident? He doesn't seem the type," Alistair answered, surprised. He didn't know what to think of this. On the bright side it meant there were no credible witnesses to his fraud anymore, but on the other hand it was an unsatisfying end. He had hoped to defeat Syme by knocking him down a peg, not by the man dying.

"Whether he is the type or not," Lavinia answered stiffly, "it is what happened."

"If you want to know more, I imagine it will be in the paper tomorrow," Lyons answered, deciding he was not going to go into detail with Lavinia there. "For now though, this man needs to be arrested."

"I should think so," Alistair answered.

Dmitri didn't react all that much to the fact that he was going to be arrested. At his current state, there wasn't much he could do anyway. Even the news of the death of Syme didn't get much out of him. He only met him the one brief time, and didn't know much about him at all. Dmitri did wonder, however, why Lavinia paled when the death was mentioned.

It took a good five minutes for two more griffin riders to respond. They were quick to cuff Dmitri and drag an unconscious Zalt to their griffins. Lyons remained behind, escorting his wounded griffin and Lavinia to the office on foot.

Once all was said and done, Luke turned to Alistair. "Back to the ship again? Maybe for a shower an' more rest?" He asked, glancing down at his wet, soot covered clothes and the little patches of black that were slowly staining his shirt.

"Yeah," Alistair answered with a sigh. "And here I was hoping it would be a peaceful day. At least I don't owe Syme any money anymore." He held a hand out to Luke to get some help up. "I could go for some lunch. You?"

"Yeah... Whole thing's kind of surprising. Saw 'im last night an' 'e seamed healthy then. Kind of disconnecting ain't it?" He moved to help Alistair to his feet, offering a shoulder for support as well. "Want to go for a bar or somewhere nicer?" He asked.

Alistair laughed. "Whiskey... Bloo'y whiskey... Back a' the ship." Alistair looked himself over. "And a bath too. For both of us. A shave and haircut for you... Then we might be back to civilization in no time."

"Don't think I really need one," Luke grumbled as he began to lead the way back to the airship.

"You look like a yeti. You most certainly need it," Alistair replied firmly, beginning to walk on wobbly legs.

"An' you look like a pompous twat but you don't see me complaining," Luke responded with a miffed tone.
