Historical Research and General Opinion

There are records of Aura Alteration being used in The Last Elven War and by some other cultist and witches in Coxland, Belyce and other neighboring islands during the Medieval Ages. It was universally feared and described in ghost stories and other frightening tales as the mutilation of the soul and the darkest of magic. However, nothing was really known about the practice. Research on the aura alteration was forbidden in Shelby University and most other magical institutions and any books that could be found were either destroyed or locked away.

Aura Alteration is one of the practices, which have long been attributed to The Oder of the Rook, and was one of the reasons the Order has been universally condemned and feared.

The Order has been studying aura alteration for many years. They see it as a key to unlimited power and spiritual purity, rather than mutilation of the soul and have been working to change the historical view of both their Order and the practice of aura Alteration. While the general opinion is still condemning, scientific and intellectual communities have begun to be receptive of the idea, including several counsel members at Shelby University.

Unbeknownst to most people, Shelby had begun merging resources with The Order in exchange for their research and expertise on aura alteration. Shelby’s Highfield Research Center has already conducted experiments on lab animals and convicts.

Definition

Aura alteration is the practice of changing a person’s arua, by adding or subtracting magical elements and energies to it and so adjusting the natural state and balance they were born with.

This requires a profound understanding of magical elements, a precise and deep understanding of auras and also the tools and ability to separate store and manipulate the magical energies within a person’s aura.

Aura reading, energy sourcing, potions, and aura binding are just a few of the practices, which are necessary to manipulate auras at this deep and precise a level.

Purposes

The purpose of aura alterations could be varied, but one main reason would be to increase or decrease a person’s magical abilities, possibility giving or taking abilities, which otherwise people could only be born with. It might also be possible to “purify” a person’s aura, by choosing one element to strength and dramatically
decreasing all other elements.

According to the Order’s religious beliefs, ancient people and powers were founded in pure auras and they traditionally desire a return to “pure spirits.” Though they now have a better scientific understanding of magical elements, religiously they still hold to there being only six pure elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Light and Dark.

Their religion envisions a world where human beings are less like humans more like embodiments of the elements, with pure spirits of whichever element they are a part of.

However, these days the Order has become more secular and is less interested in reaching spiritual purification and more interested in finding ways to gain as much magical advantages and powers as they can. Optimists hope that aura alteration is the key to becoming true superhumans, immune to all weaknesses and with enough magical powers to completely dominate other races and people. This is also the line of thinking supporters in Shelby University advocate. Aura Alteration would truly take the controls away from nature and give man the key to evolve himself and become the most perfect and powerful beings imaginable.

So Far

The Order has been able to adjust and manipulate auras for several decades, but never to any significant measures and, unless the subjects were very young, the aura would often revert back to its natural state after a few years. Recant discoveries in magical elementals and better tools for manipulating and precisely controlling magical energies have led to much more successful breakthroughs. And together with Shelby the Order has been taking several large steps towards reaching their goals.
